I am Varial* aka Cédric Houin, a visual artist, creative director, photographer, filmmaker, explorer and musician.

My personal journey has been an ongoing quest for identity and self-expression. Single child, with unknown grandfathers, a free spirit traveler pianist grandmother named "Moon," an intellectual loving mother, a father who worked for 40 years in Africa, South America, and the Pacific, I grew up travelling the world, while based in Paris, graduating in finance, communications and marketing from EM Grenoble in 2001 .

Heeding my grandmother's words, “Go where you want, die where you must," I started at an early age to travel alone, off the tourist tracks and the modern grid, on voyages of deep self-discovery, immersing myself in the world's most remote and magical landscapes, ecosystems, and cultures.

In 2003, I became Varial*, the visual artist. For the last 11 years I have been running my own creative and image studio in Montreal, collaborating with big-name musicians, designers, art centers and festivals. My commercial work is a mix of creative direction, art direction, photography, visual art, post production. It deals with ideas, visual concepts & experiences, surrealism, alternated worlds. Technically speaking I am also a pro photoshop visual artist working with this software since 1998. Since 2003 I have had more than 400 visual assignments.

In 2010, I decided to devote myself to exploration and doing what I can to make people aware of and care about the world's fast-disappearing biocultural diversity.

Questioning and exploring realities, driven and attracted by extreme journeys, remote places, tribes and threatened cultures, my approach to documentary is immersive, physical and lyrical, spiritual and psychedelic. Obsessed by untold realities, rare captured moments, simple but novel realities, striving for the sublime, I have put my artistic chops in the service of the planet.
